One is on my computer system and the other is on my TV stereo. Works perfect right out of the box. Common since says that I will eventually save some money on energy cost. Simple as that. I bought two. I have cable and elected to turn off my cable box also. When I turn on the TV I have to wait a couple minutes for the guide program info to come on but no big deal.
Although smarter than the average power strip, this device has only limited intelligence. My application is a Logitech Squeezebox receiver as control device, and a ZERO class D amplifier as switched device. Neither will my Pioneer receiver trigger the switch. ". But finding a standalone switching device for my ZERO amp is not that easy, although there are schematics freely available on the web if you're a DIY type.Another option was to leave the amp on 24/7, since it is low power. Not exactly. The instruction manual, page 5, states "The Smart Strip will work with the following equipment: * All home entertainment equipment. The Logitech receiver doesn't effectively switch the power strip, no matter how finely I tune the threshold adjusting switch.
The adjustable switching threshold doesn't work with devices having small differences between the "on" and "standby" states. This includes lots of my home entertainment equipment. A lamp works - but not practical.Switching devices triggered by audio signals are built into some self-powered speakers and amplifiers, and I do have these deployed elsewhere. But, there are sufficient electromagnetic fields present to generate noise in the speakers.Well, the 60's style toggle switch on the amp does work well.
These power strips are wonderful - I have them on all my computers plus 2 seperate entertainment centers - what an easy way to save electricity without any extra effort - I have the entertainment center ones set so that when I turn off the tv it also turns off the stereo and game consoles attached to that tv - I put the dvr's on the constant on plug. On the pc's I have it set to cut power to monitors and speakers when the pc shuts down. All work great and were super easy to adjust sensitivity. Sometimes being "green" can be easy.
When you power down the tv which is the main component of this setup, everything powers off as well including my strip lights and all the peripherals. Smart strip is a smart idea. No more phantom stealing of power. I'm very happy with this purchase, I'm going to buy more for my other setups. Great price on Amazon with free shipping.
I recently bought three of these and have had some issues with them. Same thing with my living room, where I have the tv, wii and stereo all plugged in. I have a router attached to my desktop computer that allows the laptops in the house to be used. With the smart strip, I must turn on the desktop in order for any of the others to be usuable. The stereo will not turn on until I turn the tv on. I might be setting things up wrong.need to read the directions again.
